It’s kind of hard to tell which season it is when Vegas is always warm and sunny. Thankfully, the Palazzo Waterfall Atrium and the Bellagio Conservatory never fail to remind us with their seasonal displays. In a town that isn’t really fit to grow tomatoes, they manage to cultivate whatever the heck they want. And right now, it’s pretty pastels to celebrate spring.
Settling on rich, cool tones, the Palazzo Waterfall Atrium spent nearly a year creating 38 iridescent butterflies. They’re suspended from the domed ceiling and perched throughout the installation with wing spans ranging from four to 10 feet wide. Inspired by the morpho species, each purple and blue butterfly was designed and created to emulate stained glass.
The centerpiece of the display is the water garden with three bearded irises ranging from 10 to 15 feet tall. Each of the six petals are five feet in diameter and flanked by hydrangeas, spider mums, orchids, ferns and more. Twenty-three artists and artisans from all over the country collaborated on the design and construction, which consists of more than 2,000 plants and flowers.
The Palazzo’s spring floral exhibit is free and open to the public 24 hours a day, and will be on display until June 5.
Continuing with a Japanese spring theme, the Bellagio Conservatory decided on warm and vibrant pastels to celebrate the season. Pink and purple tulips and hyacinth, yellow daffodils, cherry blossoms and more cover every square inch of the gardens, 82,830 flowers in all. This year, they’ve added large iron cages filled with tiny chirping birds whose singing reverberates throughout the conservatory space.
There is a deep symbolization in the materials used throughout the garden, all representing natural elements and aiming to bring good luck and prosperity to those who visit. Bamboo canes used in the display are 10-feet-tall and four inches round, serving multiple structural purposes as well as a splattering water feature.
The centerpiece in the west bed is the massive twisting tree that guests can walk through to get a closer look at the koi pond, bird cages and fresh-cut floral animals. It took the Bellagio’s horticulture team hours to create the floral crane and turtle using 15,000 fresh stems. The Bellagio’s spring floral exhibit will be up until May 14 and is free to the public 24 hours a day.
